Description

IDENTIFYING VISUAL CHALLENGES AND THEIR TREATMENTS

Over the past 40 years, the genetic predisposition to visual problems has not changed. However, due to society's sedentary lifestyle, unregulated TV viewing, excessive video game play, and poor computer habits, more and more children are demonstrating visual challenges at home, at school, and at play.

This recording is designed to help professionals understand common visual problems in children, what children are "seeing," why they are seeing it, and how to fix these visual challenges. Combining research-based lecture and interactive labs, this course provides the proper tools to identify and treat visual neglect, cross dominance, eye teaming, visual processing, and scotopic sensitivity. Correcting these issues ultimately improves the child's quality of life, as reading, handwriting, and playing are enhanced. Grounded in evidence-based information, this recording offers comprehensive coverage of established techniques that can be implemented immediately and effectively in therapy, at home, and in the classroom.

SCOTT BERGLUND, OTR/L, MOT, BSHO, ATC, is a licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Wyoming with an emphasis in pediatrics for the past 12 years. Prior to that, he worked as an Occupational Therapist and held licenses in both Nebraska and Iowa. As a visual rehabilitation specialist emphasizing in the importance of movement, Mr. Berglund consulted on two research and development projects for Nike: the Tiger Woods sunglasses and Nike Snow-vision goggles. In addition to his work and consulting efforts, he has shared his expertise in visual rehabilitation throughout the Mountain West region, including the Council for Exceptional Children and the University of North Dakota School of Occupational Therapy. Currently, he consults with doctors, teachers, clients, and parents in seven states.
