Description

Explore the principles of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy in relation to avoidant and resistant client behaviors
This practical, skill-centered webinar presents cutting edge tools and techniques in Choice Theory and Reality Therapy for dealing with difficult client behaviors that are often labeled as resistant or avoidant. This course will summarize the motivations that underlie resistance and will provide an overview of the WDEP system of Reality Therapy, with an emphasis on client/student self-evaluation. Dealing with Resistance, Avoidance, and Excuses: Paradoxical Reality Therapy will focus on several advanced techniques for handling resistant behaviors: reframing, prescribing the symptom, and paradoxical statements. Both therapeutic and non-therapeutic examples will be given to explore these techniques. Emphasizing ethical considerations and cautionary guidelines of Reality Therapy will allow participants to decide if using Reality Therapy is right for their resistant clients.
