Carolyn Mcmanus, PT, MS, MA, Related seminars and products
CAROLYN McMANUS, PT, MS, MA, has specialized in the care of people in chronic pain for over 30 years. She is on staff in the Outpatient Rehabilitation Department at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington where she has taught Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to patients with chronic pain since 1998. In addition, Ms. McManus is a research associate at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System where she teaches meditation courses to veterans suffering from a range of chronic health conditions, including chronic pain. She holds Master's degrees in physical therapy from Duke University and in psychology from Antioch University. She has practiced mindfulness meditation for over 30 years and completed an advanced MBSR Teacher Training Program through the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness.
Her recent publications include: "A Practical Guide to Integrating Behavioral and Psychologically Informed Approaches into Physical Therapist Management of Patients with Chronic Pain" in Orthopedic Physical Therapy Practice, Jan. 2015; "Loving Kindness Meditation and the Broad-and-Build Theory of Positive Emotions" in Medical Care, Dec. 2014; and "Loving Kindness Meditation for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder" in the Journal of Traumatic Stress, Aug. 2013. Ms. McManus is a national speaker with recent presentations at the American Physical Therapy Association's National and Combined Sections Conferences. She is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, American Academy of Pain Management, and the Pain Management Special Interest Group of the Orthopedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.
