Description
Discover how the implementation of psychoeducation and motivational enhancement techniques can help engage your clients in the early phase of cognitive behavioral therapy.
Research suggests that many clients who present for therapy are not yet in a place where they are ready to take action. Many cognitive therapists immediately jump into the application of cognitive and behavioral change techniques, which has the potential to impair their therapeutic relationship and increase the likelihood of dropout in clients who have not yet made a full commitment to treatment. This webinar will provide detailed descriptions of techniques associated with two broad strategies for orienting clients to treatment. Psychoeducation is the provision of information to clients about their presenting problem, the structure and process of treatment, the theoretical rationale for treatment, and the treatment's efficacy rates. Motivational enhancement is a set of strategies based on the principles of motivational interviewing that can be applied before beginning a course of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to increase clients' motivation for treatment. Webinar participants will gain an understanding of the rationale for and purpose of psychoeducation and motivational enhancement, as well as specific techniques that achieve these aims.
