Description
Most Child Sexual Abuse Incidents Are Never Reported. Are You Missing the Signs?
Your work plays an important role in the way the justice system handles allegations of child sexual abuse, but it also exposes you to ethical and legal liabilities. Whether you're assessing the credibility of a young child's allegations or evaluating an offender's risk level, you must be able to spot red flags and be clinically certain in your conclusions and recommendations—no easy task.
Led by expert evaluator and international presenter, Dr. Sarah Shelton, this course guides you through the dynamics and trends of child sexual abuse, teaching you to discern signs of abuse from developmentally appropriate behavior. Explore cutting edge evidence-based assessment and treatment protocols for perpetrators (adult and juvenile) and their victims, and find out which options are clinically proven to work best. Finally, protect your clients – and your practice – by learning what is legally and ethically expected of you in these complex and challenging cases, and boost your skill set and value in both forensic and clinical contexts.
What You Will Learn:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of child sexual abuse
- Evaluate and respond to child allegations of sexual abuse in a clinical setting with a focus on credibility assessment
- Identify and formally assess offenders in clinical practice
- Assess the mindset and behavioral patterns of offenders, comparing and contrasting adult and juvenile offenders of child sexual abuse
- Analyze treatment options and outcomes for offenders (adult and juvenile) as well as advocacy and treatment options for child sexual abuse victims
- Explain the complex intersections between the mental health and justice systems in cases of child sexual abuse
