D. Kristen Small, PhD, LMHC,
D. KRISTEN SMALL, PhD, LMHC, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor with more than 15 years of experience. Currently, Dr. Small works for Centerstone of Indiana in Seymour, Indiana. He provides traditional outpatient services at Centerstone's outpatient clinic as well as behavioral health treatments at the local Community Health Center. Dr. Small is an Assistant Professor of Counseling at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Dr. Small has a Doctorate of Philosophy in Christian Counseling from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; a Master of Science in Counseling/Counselor Education from Indiana University; and a Master of Divinity, Master of Arts, and Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Ministry from Cincinnati Christian University. He also completed graduate work in counseling psychology at the University of Louisville. Dr. Small trained under the direction of Jesse Wright, MD, PhD, and has collaborated with Dr. Wright on a number of research projects utilizing computer-assisted cognitive therapy, including two National Institute of Mental Health study on the effectiveness of computer-assisted Cognitive Therapy.
Dr. Small has a passion for training clinicians in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies and previously helped lead the Cognitive Therapy training program at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine. He is a skilled clinician who has dedicated his career to utilizing empirically-based treatments. Dr. Small is a diplomat and fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. He is a National Certified Counselor and Master Addiction Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors. He is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. Dr. Small has given many presentations on such topics as PTSD, Depression, OCD, ADHD, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Stress Management. Dr. Small's experience makes him a knowledgeable and skilled instructor.
