Debbie Joffe Ellis, MDAM


Debbie Joffe Ellis, MDAM, was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, is a Licensed Psychologist in Australia and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York, and has over 25 years of clinical experience. She is an adjunct professor at Columbia University New York City and is affiliated with several major psychological associations and societies, including membership in the Australian Psychological Society, and holds an international affiliate membership in the American Psychological Association. For years, she worked with her husband, the brilliant and renowned pioneer of modern cognitive therapies, Dr. Albert Ellis, giving public presentations and professional trainings in his approach of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), as well as collaborating with him on writing and research projects until his death in 2007. She continues to present, practice, and write about his groundbreaking psychotherapeutic approach of REBT throughout the USA and in countries across the globe.

 

Recognized as a world-renowned expert on REBT, and honored as a “Legend in Counseling” at the annual American Counseling Association convention in 2014, Dr. Joffe Ellis is featured in a DVD produced by the American Psychological Association (APA) demonstrating and discussing the approach. The APA also published the book Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy that she co-wrote with her husband. She also completed his autobiography All Out following his death. She is a regular reviewer for the APA journal, PsycCritiques, has had articles published in various APA journals and division newsletters, contributed chapters and entries for books and encyclopedias, writes occasional blog articles for Psychology Today, and appears in a variety of radio, web, and podcast interviews.
